The Boston College Eagles have hired Cornell’s Steve Donahue as their new head coach.
Donahue just wrapped up a tremendous season with the Cornell as he guided them to the Sweet 16.
He quickly became one of the top coaching candidates for a number of jobs, and Boston College moved fast to get him.
Donahue takes over for Al Skinner, who was let go in a mutual decision after 13 years with the school.
The new head coach will have his work cut out for him trying to ramp up interest in the program.

After firing head coach Al Skinner, Boston College must now begin a search for a new head coach.
It’s not going to be a very easy search given the lack of excitement around their hoops program.
Most of the games are not sold out, there is not a lot of boosters donating money and professional sports reign king in the Boston area.
It could help that the Eagles are now a part of the ACC, which is considered one of the best basketball conferences in the country.
Then again, it could hurt from the standpoint that recruiting will be very difficult and every road game is a significant trip.

In a surprising move, the Boston College Eagles have fired head coach Al Skinner after 13 years in Chestnut Hill.
Skinner had shown interest in the St. John’s coaching vacancy and interviewed for the job.
However, St. John’s chose to go in another direction and hired former UCLA head coach Steve Lavin.
Some believe that Skinner’s decision to interview with St. John’s might have angered Boston College.
Others think it was a mutual decision and the Eagles were hoping that Skinner would land the St. John’s job.
